No Man's Sky's Omega update, which has just gone live on PS5, makes a number of big changes, including finally giving Expeditions a "complete overhaul".
Just a few days ago, Hello Games founder Sean Murray started cryptically tweeting something that is sure to be familiar to God of War fans - the omega symbol. Murray often makes these kinds of tweets before a big update for No Man's Sky goes live and, while some people were probably hoping for Light No Fire news, you won't be surprised to find out that's what he was teasing once again.
Although Hello Games hasn't yet officially announced the Omega update or detailed everything that's coming to it, as showcased by Twitter user trilestial, a patch just went live for PlayStation players that has revealed most of what's in store. The patch notes reveal that the update is inviting players to "embark upon a new shared interstellar expedition" that also features a "complete overhaul" of the mode alongside new on-planet missions, claimable pirate freighters, and more.
For those that don't know, Expeditions are a new type of event that was introduced to No Man's Sky back in 2021. These timed events challenged players to make their way from one point of the galaxy to another while also starting fresh without any of the items or ships earned in the main game.
The point of Expeditions might have been for players to experience one journey together with the same set of resources, but it was still frustrating to have to restart every time. With the Omega update, however, it sounds like that won't be a problem anymore. The patch notes for the update reveal that a new Expeditions system allows players to start with "bespoke provisions, favourite ships, custom Multi-Tools, and return with exciting rewards".
The Omega update also introduces the ability to defeat Pirate Freighters in combat and then board them to take control. A pirate's life for us indeed.
