Former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan has shared a new name as his top choice to portray the iconic spy in the upcoming 007 movies.
Brosnan played the legendary MI6 agent in four movies and ended his reign with Die Another Day in 2002. Daniel Craig was introduced as the new 007 four years later and portrayed the character in five films. Craig's last outing as James Bond came in 2021, and since then, the creative forces behind the franchise have been looking for a new James Bond actor. Several names have been swirled around in recent years, but Brosnan believes this Academy Award-nominated actor would be phenomenal as the iconic character.
During an interview with BBC, the Black Adam star revealed that Cillian Murphy should play 007. Even though he didn’t elaborate on his answer, he said Murphy would look “magnificent” in the role. He said, “Cillian would do a magnificent job as James Bond on His Majesty's Secret Service.” This is not the first time Brosnan has opened up about who should be the next James Bond. Brosnan previously noted that Idris Elba and Tom Hardy would be a good fit for the MI6 agent. Interestingly, Elba and Hardy were once touted as the frontrunners to play James Bond in the upcoming films. However, Elba clarified that playing James Bond is not something that he wants to achieve in his career.
Murphy is undoubtedly one of the best actors of this generation and has given several extraordinary performances. However, his portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan's biographical epic Oppenheimer took everyone by storm. Critics and audiences praised the actor for his gritty performance and labeled him a force to be reckoned with.
