Earlier this week, Nintendo released another Switch firmware update, titled version 16.0.1, to users all around the globe. The update for Nintendo Switch consoles arrived over a month after version 16.0.0, the previous major update, was released for the system and made some adjustments to the internal operations of the Switch's OS.
The firmware update to the Switch's operating system came amid a controversial time for Nintendo. In just a few days, the Wii U and 3DS versions of the Nintendo eShop will permanently close. This led to a vast number of gamers and content creators scrambling to buy as many eShop games as possible on those systems before closing time, whether their intent is game preservation or personal use. While some games from those systems have made their way to the Switch in some capacity, some titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD will be inaccessible digitally, and the prices of used physical copies will be affected as a result. Whether the closure of the Wii U and 3DS eShops will force Nintendo to make more ports to the Switch in the short term remains to be seen.
