In fact we might be seeing an end of Nintendo released mobile phone games. But the future of their IPs might still press on in the film industry. Recently, The Super Marios Bros. Movie landed in theaters, and that has sparked some fans to wonder if we’ll continue to see more projects come to fruition on the big screen.
This latest film comes from a partnership with Illumination, and it seems to be doing well with those that headed to theaters this week to see it. With a big cast of actors such as Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Seth Rogen, it’s no surprise that fans are curious if more films could be inbound. Perhaps we’re looking into a cinematic universe that will further expand with new thrilling installments along with other Nintendo IPs being featured. So who better to ask about this possibility than the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meladandri, and Nintendo general manager, Shigeru Miyamoto?
Recently, Screenrant spoke with the duo as they continued to market The Super Mario Bros. Movie. However, don’t expect either to reveal what might be in the works. The publication asked directly if other video games could do well as a film adaptation, such as The Legend of Zelda or Starfox. However, Shigeru Miyamoto shut down the question right away by alerting the publication that they have nothing to share at the moment but feel that there will be opportunities in the future.
There’s nothing I can really comment on at the moment. But we started with the fact that we have a shared vision of creation, so I think there’ll be opportunities in the future.
