In an issue of Robins, one of the biggest glaring issues with the Robin costume has finally been addressed by Nightwing. As the first person to wear the iconic outfit, Dick Grayson has revealed his reasons for wearing such loud colors.
After witnessing the unfortunate murder of his parents, young circus performer Dick Grayson was taken under the wing of Bruce Wayne. Doubling as the vigilante Batman, Bruce brought Dick into the crimefighting life and gave him the chance to create his own heroic persona. Dick chose the name «Robin» and decided on a garishly colored outfit consisting of red, green and yellow colors. While the costume fit an eager and smiling hero like Robin, the brightness clashed with the Dark Knight's color palette, who preferred darker colors to blend in with the shadows.

Now it looks like Dick Grayson is providing a reason why in Robins #6 from Tim Seeley and Baldemar Rivas. Every hero that's ever worn the Robin costume finds their pasts coming back to haunt them thanks to Jenny Wren, a young woman who served as a «proto-Robin» before being rejected by Batman. She enacts her ultimate plan by using holographic technology to convince Batman that his old adversary and Wren's mentor, Cormac Dodge, has returned from the grave. As Batman furiously pummels «Dodge,» who is actually Tim Drake, the Robins come to their rescue and try to subdue Bruce. Nightwing stays behind while the rest of the team deals with Wren, and the former Boy Wonder tries breaking through to Bruce by asking about the night he first became Robin.
