Thor: Love and Thunder writer and director Taika Waititi praises Christian Bale’s Gorr as probably Marvel’s best villain yet. After reinvigorating the Thor franchise with 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok, Waititi’s follow-up, Love and Thunder, is set to be released in theaters on July 8th. The film’s cast includes Chris Hemsworth as its titular Asgardian, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Jamie Alexander as Lady Sif, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Waititi as Korg, Russell Crowe as Zeus, and Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher.
Bale has made a reputation for being one of Hollywood’s most transformative and acclaimed actors after roles in films like The Machinist, American Psycho, American Hustle, and The Fighter — the latter of which won him an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. After packing on the muscle for Warner Bros./DC Films’ Batman Begins, Bale became a generation’s Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. Now, he makes his return to the comic book genre in Disney/Marvel Studios’ Love and Thunder, and Waititi says his latest performance could be another game-changer.
