New World's first paid expansion, Rise of the Angry Earth, has officially launched today, bringing the next chapter of the Amazon MMO to players.
Having just celebrated its second anniversary, Amazon Games doesn't show any sign of slowing down with New World. Coming off the successful Brimstone Sands update and the transition to seasonal content, Rise of the Angry Earth brings players the next phase of the story that has shaped Aeternum since we first crashlanded on the Eternal Isle's shores in 2021.
Rise of the Angry Earth continues the story that has seen Adiana, now revealed to be the God Artemis, seal off First Light behind the bramble wall as the Angry Earth aims to reclaim the Isle from civilization. Behind the bramble wall is an ethereal and alien landscape that was once First Light, now known only as Elysian Wilds. The new landscape is changed completely, though there are callbacks to the First Light that was before Adiana and the Beast Lords reclaimed the region.
One of the most requested features, mounts, also comes with today's expansion, bringing horses, direwolves and lion friends to players starting at level 25. We previewed the expansion back at the end of August, with mounts being a standout feature for me as it completely transforms how you get around the world.
Rise of the Angry Earth is a paid expansion, so it'll set you back $30 for the new transformed zone, raised level cap, mounts and more. However, Rise of the Angry Earth also brings the next phase of New World's attempt to streamline the original leveling process, bringing the 25-50 revamp live to the game, regardless of whether you've bought the new content.
