It isn’t even near New Year’s yet and Sony has already made good on their resolution to lose weight! Okay, not really, but they have cut off some of the extra bulk that the PS5 is well-known for carrying around. In a Tweet from their official Twitter (X) account, PlayStation let everyone know about the design changes that are available for both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition. It appears to be garnering lots of popular reactions, reaching over one million views on the post within its first hour at the time of writing, alongside 17,000 comments. Continue reading if you would like to hear all of the changes that are coming with this new PS5 model.
The first and most impressive part about this new model of the PS5 is that its volume has been reduced by over 30%! That’s a huge decrease when you consider that the PS5 was already a relatively compact machine. Its weight has also been lowered by 18% and 24% compared to its previous models as well, meaning your gaming console will be a lot lighter should you choose to pay for the new version.
Just how much is the PS5 going for? Well, Sony can’t exactly force its retail partners to list their products at a certain price; however, the official website lists the suggested retail price for the new model of the PS5 at $449.99 if you want the Digital Edition, and $499.99 if you’re looking for the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc driver version. Don’t worry if you can’t decide which model of the PS5 to buy, though, since the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be sold separately as well, for the price of $79.99. Therefore, it’s a little bit more if you’re indecisive, but it may be worth the cost if you want the console now but aren’t sure if you will need the physical disc drive for your games.
