Director has revealed his thoughts on DC‘s new direction under James Gunn and that he himself has spoken with DC Studios.
On Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Vaughn discussed superhero movies and DC. The director noted that he’s spoken with DC — specifically DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran.
“DC have reached out. Gunn and Peter, we’ve been talking and they’re great. James … he reinvents Superman,” Vaughn said.
When the topic of The Authority — a DC superhero team that is set to appear in Superman: Legacy — came up, Vaughn was asked if it was of interest to him. Though the director noted he’s currently happy making his own stuff, he explained that he has faith in Gunn’s ability to handle DC.
“Never say never,” Vaughn stated. “At the moment, I’m very much enjoying creating my own things because, as I said, I don’t get all the tentacles of political madness — can’t get hold of it. I think Gunn … DC is in the best hands it’s been in for a long time, so let’s see what happens.”

Vaughn has plenty of experience with superhero movies and comic book adaptations, having directed X-Men: First Class and written the story for the sequel X-Men: Days of Future Past. Additionally, he directed Kick-Ass and all three of the Kingsmen films, all of which were based on comic books.
