The new PS5 model has been revealed, completely replacing the chunky launch models on the market right now. The new PS5 will come both with and without a disc drive, although digital PS5 players will now be able to pick a drive up separately, in case they change their minds.
This is the first major console to release with a digital version that can be upgraded to use discs separately, as the Xbox Series S currently doesn't offer this service. However, the optional Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive will be priced at $79.99 USD/£99.99 GBP, so it's an expensive commitment should you wish to leave your digital-only experience behind.

"To address the evolving needs of players, our engineering and design teams collaborated on a new form factor that provides greater choice and flexibility," reads the announcement from PlayStation. "The new PS5 has been reduced in volume by more than 30 percent, and weight by 18 percent and 24 percent compared to the previous models."
The new PS5s will hit the US market this November, but it's not clear when we can expect to find them in other regions. As it launches, Sony wants to get through its current stock, since the slim model will completely replace it in the coming months.

The new model will only include a horizontal stand, with the vertical stand seen in the promotional image available separately for a pricey $29.99/£25.99. Hopefully, the smaller size means it'll take up less shelf space this time around.
