There are two new rumors adding credence to the idea that The Last Of Us 2 Remastered is coming to the PlayStation 5, and that it’s coming next year.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, PlayStationSize has posted on Twitter that they have found data for The Last Of Us 2 coming natively to the PlayStation 5. While they didn’t explicitly say this game was remastered, gamers would definitely not be happy if this native port was just a straight port of the game.
The Last Of Us 2 released in 2020 for the PlayStation 4. Unlike the original game, there really hasn’t been that much time that’s passed between that release and now. To punctuate that further, PlayStation 5 users can play The Last Of Us 2 on their console, by activating backwards compatibility on their console.
While we can’t definitely disprove that The Last Of Us 2 won’t just be a rerelease of the PlayStation 4 game, we can point to these reasons for why doing so would be a terrible idea for Sony, and that would compel them to make a full remake or remaster instead.
Our second rumor is more straightforward. As shared on reddit by user folyqa, Hungarian tech journalist Péter Birkás claims that Sony sent out emails for press asking for codes for The Last Of Us 2 Remastered. Notably, Péter also says that this was only for the PlayStation 5, and no news has come up for the PC version.
Of course, we already know as a matter of Sony’s policies that they will bring The Last Of Us 2 Remastered to PC. We know from their financial reports that as popular and successful as their first party games are, they are not selling enough on PlayStation 5 to justify their large budgets.
