NetherRealm Studios has revealed that it has the best Mortal Kombat parody poster ever at its office. After Warner Bros. purchased Midway Games, the studio that originally developed the popular fighting game series, in 2009, it was renamed to WB Games Chicago before finally being incorporated as NetherRealm Studios in 2010. NetherRealm has since worked on the current series of Mortal Kombat games as well as the Injustice series. One of the other co-creators of Mortal Kombat, John Tobias, recently shared Mortal Kombat's first battle with Street Fighter, its rival fighting game franchise.
While the Mortal Kombat franchise had a lull in its popularity in the 2000s, which may have somewhat contributed to the studio’s sale to Warner Bros, NetherRealm released a soft reboot for the franchise with 2011’s Mortal Kombat, which effectively kicked off a resurgence for the franchise. The changes that the soft reboot introduced would be built upon further by the studio in its follow-up entries, Mortal Kombat X and Mortal Kombat 11, and helped bring the classic fighting game series back to the forefront of the genre.
