Netflix's One Piece show casts an actor to portray a live-action version of Shanks. Netflix's upcoming live-action One Piece series is based on the ongoing 1997 manga of the same by Eiichiro Oda which was adapted into an anime series in 1999. One Piece's story centers on the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, who explores the Grand Line in search of the titular fabled treasure in order to become the next King of the Pirates.
News of Netflix's live-action adaptation first surfaced in 2017, though its core cast was only announced this past year, which consists of five relatively unknown actors. This includes Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as the master swordsman Roronoa Zoro, Emily Rudd as the navigator Nami, Jacob Romero Gibson as the sharpshooter Usopp, and Taz Skylar as the chef Sanji. Showrunner Steven Maeda recently revealed that Netflix'sOne Piece has returned to production following a lengthy delay and now, the live-action show is adding one more name to its ensemble cast.

Netflix confirms thatOne Piece has cast Peter Gadiot in the role of Shanks. In the live-action series, Shanks is the captain of the Red-Haired Pirates who is Luffy's childhood hero that first inspired him to become a pirate. The news was announced by Gadiot himself at Shueisha’s Great Pirate Festival.
Gadiot is a British actor best known for his role as James Valdez on the USA series Queen of the South, though he also played Cyrus on ABC's Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Mr. Mxyzptlk on The CW's Supergirl. Most recently, Gadiot was seen in a recurring role on Showtime's hit series Yellowjackets as Adam, a love interest for Shauna. The
