Netflix new feature: Popular OTT platform Netflix is introducing a new feature called ‘Double Thumbs Up’. This feature will enable users to highlight when they really liked something. After Facebook followed up ‘likes’ with ‘love react’ and Tinder bolstered ‘like’ with ‘super like’, now Netflix is giving users another tool to help separate content which they just like and which they really like a lot. The feature is not just a personalization tool for users but also helps the platform’s AI-based recommendation engine in better filtering and recommending content to users. The company stated that it was a highly requested feature by the users.
The new feature will be an addition to the existing like and dislike buttons. Netflix has been using these buttons as a clear indication of which content is being preferred by the audience and which is not. It helps the company in both keeping or discarding content as well as recommending more content along the same lines.
“Members have never had as many great entertainment options as they have right now. Being able to find the shows and movies that you’re going to love is really important. We want to continue to make Netflix the place where it’s easiest to choose something to watch,” Christine Doig-Cardet, director of product innovation and personalization experiences at Netflix told The Verge.
This is not the first time Netflix is experimenting with its rating system. In 2017, the company ditched its previous 5-star rating system in favor of the current like and dislike buttons. The Netflix new feature of double thumbs up has already debuted in the USA and it is expected to roll out to the rest of the world in the coming days.
