Mortal Kombat 1 turned heads when NetherRealm revealed what platforms it would launch on. Skipping last-gen entirely, it instead opted for just PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S... and Nintendo Switch. Yup, too powerful for PS4 and Xbox One, but just right for Switch, apparently. Well, now that Mortal Kombat 1 is available to play for anyone with a premium edition, we can put that to the test ourselves.
As many of us expected, the results aren't great. While it's impressive that it runs at all - and seems to do a decent job at maintaining a steady framerate - the graphical compromises it makes are dire. In places, it looks significantly worse than the Switch port of Mortal Kombat 11, and even previous Mortal Kombat games on older Nintendo platforms. And that's not even getting into all the bugs.

The most immediately noticeable issue on Switch is the visuals. Calling them a downgrade from the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions doesn't do it justice - it's really rough. While we all knew it wouldn't look anywhere near as good as its Sony and Microsoft counterparts, few expected the changes to be this severe.
It gets even worse when you see it in motion, particularly the pre-fight animations. During a fight, low-quality character models are harder to notice, but when they're all up in your face like this... yeah, it's pretty horrifying. And the fatalities aren't much better either, as you can see in the video below.
Perhaps this could all be forgiven if the fighting wasn't affected. That is, of course, what a fighting game is all about anyway, and there's nothing more frustrating than lag while you're trying to input combos. Actually, that's not true, because
