Microsoft has raised the prices of its Xbox Series X and Series S consoles in Sweden.
The Xbox Series X price has increased from 5,695 SEK ($550) to 6,195 SEK ($599), over two years after the console launched in November 2020.
As spotted by Gaming Deputy, the Xbox Series S price has also risen from 3,595 SEK ($347) to 3,894 SEK ($376).
VGC has contacted Microsoft for comment on its decision to increase console prices in Sweden.
In January, Microsoft also raised the prices of Xbox Series X/S consoles in Japan.
“We regularly evaluate the impact of local pricing to maintain reasonable consistency across regions,” it said in at the time.
“This price revision affects our customers and was a difficult decision to make, but going forward we will continue to provide the ultimate Xbox experience that our customers expect.”
Citing the challenging global economic environment, last August Sony raised PS5 prices in Europe, Japan, and parts of North America.
Following Sony‘s announcement, the UK arms of both Microsoft and Nintendo told VGC that they weren’t planning to raise console prices at that time.
But in November, Microsoft‘s head of gaming suggested that the price of Xbox consoles, games and/or subscriptions could increase in the future.
“I think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into the holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices,” Phil Spencer said at the WSJ Tech Live event.
He added: “We’ve held price on our console, we’ve held price on games […] and our subscription. I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever. I do think at some point we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things.”
