Metal Gear Solid's PS5 Master Collection Adds Two More Titles | Push Square

We already know the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 will include three games from Konami’s classic stealth series – but there’s more. As spotted on the game’s official PS Store page, the compilation will also include the MSX2 originals: Metal Gear and, of course, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake.

While these additions will be gratefully received, their inclusion probably shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, as both titles previously featured in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence on the PS2, and its subsequent HD Collection port on the PS3 and PS Vita. With that in mind, we’d be disappointed if they weren’t present.

Originally released in 1987, the first Metal Gear – directed by series creator Hideo Kojima, of course – adopted an isometric viewpoint, and was later ported to the Nintendo Entertainment System, which is the version we suspect the majority of you will be familiar with. The sequel never actually made its way outside of its native Japan, but was eventually localised for the abovementioned Subsistence. Both actually represent pivotal parts of the Metal Gear plot, with the second game in particular connecting crucially to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Perhaps the most important thing here is that the Vol. 1 in the newest compilation’s moniker suggests Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots may finally shed its PS3 exclusivity, which would be great for accessibility purposes really. Currently, the only way to play the title is on Sony’s last-last-gen console, but it’d be great to have all of the releases readily available on the PS5.
