Marvel's new Thing of the Fantastic Four has merged with the six Infinity Stones to become the all-powerful Infinity Thing, but the former hero is no longer himself. Arguably the member of the Fantastic Four with the most tragic backstory, Benjamin Grimm is famously unable to «switch off» his powers, forever dooming him to live a life of loneliness and despair (at least, in his opinion). Avengers Forever #3 reveals the Thing has changed into yet another new and terrifyingly powerful form, turning him into Marvel's version of Doctor Manhattan.
In Avengers Forever, Tony Stark is known as the Ant-Man, who invented Stark Particles (this universes' version of Pym Particles) to aid in his adventures around the world. He considers himself a freedom fighter, treasure hunter and explorer extraordinaire, and as such has gathered a team of Avengers to help save the multiverse from the clutches of the Black Skull. Among those superheroes is Ben Grimm — the Infinity Thing.

Ben Grimm's usual orange rocky skin is now a multicolored crystalline surface, shining in every panel, and his eyes glow bright with power. Per Tony's narration, he searched the stars for anything that could help the planet in its hour of need. He "...came back as the Infinity Thing. As much as he ever came back at all." The Infinity Thing is ever-stoic and speaks in an oddly-clipped fashion, no longer retaining the Brooklyn accent for which his prime-universe counterpart is known. It can be inferred that Ben has absorbed the power of the Infinity Stones into his own body...but Ben as friends and fans know him no longer exists.
