There is a new team coming to Marvel's universe with Thunderbolts #1 , with a roster of known heroes and fresh faces — including two new fighters in particular that classic comic fans won't want to miss when the issue arrives in May 2022.
Writer Jim Zub and artist Sean Izaakse are returning to the Thunderbolts title spinning out of the Devil's Reign event, and Wilson Fisk's war on masked heroes. Many of the members who comprise this new incarnation of the Thunderbolts will be familiar to long-time fans, but two incredible throwback heroes are making their comics debut: Gutsen Glory and Eegro the Unbreakable.

Zub took over the Thunderbolts title from 2016-2017 which featured many of the original members. For his 2022 run of Thunderbolts Zub is calling up long-time Avenger Hawkeye. Clint Barton will be joined by America Chavez, Spectrum, a cyber-soldier classic throwback to the 90s, and an old-school Kirby-inspired behemoth. In an exclusive interview with Comicbook.com, Zub introduces his new Thunderbolts roster. In an intentional move to give readers something unexpected, Zub is grounding his heroes around New York City and they each will fulfill a specific role:
In the series, we talk a bit about these team roles as specific titles – the Leader, the Brick, the Mentalist, the Energy Slinger, titles like that. These are core roles we've seen countless times in superhero team line-ups, we're just calling them out specifically as part of the team-building process. In terms of why the team is being put into place this way, all will be explained in issue #1.
