Birdo has long been a fan-favorite racer that players will now be able to unlock in as part of a new Wave of DLC coming to the game. Along with eight new tracks that will no doubt make races even more interesting between players, Birdo harkens back to when they were a character in. Notoriously an extremely difficult racer to unlock in that title, requiring players to participate in nearly 1,400 races, Birdo seems to be a much more accessible character this time around.
Players are able to unlock Birdo by purchasing the Wave 4 DLC as part of the Booster Pass. This DLC includes not only Birdo as an additional racer, but also the eight tracks in 's Booster Course Wave 4 that include many classics from previous entries in the series. Although there has not been an official release date for when Wave 4's content will be released, Nintendo has mentioned that it will arrive sometime in Spring 2023.

Despite the purchase of Wave 4 of the Booster Pass, players must also have a Nintendo Online subscription in order to access the online shop where this DLC may be found. This requirement should be familiar to players who already acquired the first three waves of content added. Some notable highlights from this particular Wave are not limited to Birdo, as players will have the opportunity to traverse the new track called Yoshi's Island in , which has many callbacks to characters and locations from the green dinosaur's spin-off games.
As of this writing, it is unclear whether players will have to do anything beyond simply downloading the DLC to use Birdo, or if there will be in-game challenges that must be completed before having use of the racer. In,
