Tekken’s outspoken game director Katsuhiro Harada has spent a little time on Twitter this Easter weekend, replying to fans’ questions regarding its upcoming fighter, Tekken 8. The main takeaways from his session on social media are that the latest instalment in the long-running fighting franchise will boast crossplay and rollback netcode, although there is still a little scepticism about the latter, considering Tekken 7’s solution was poorly received by fans.
“When the previous generation consoles were released, I had already proposed crossplay between the two platform [holders],” he said. “However, at that time, they were at odds with each other over their mutual interests and repeatedly refused.” Obviously, crossplay is a lot more common these days, and is supported by most major franchises, so it makes sense for Tekken 8 to add the feature.

On the subject of rollback netcode, Harada said the game “has what you want”. He continued: “The reason why we don't make big announcements like crossplay is because even if we make big announcements, people like you will only say things like, ‘Waaaa! That's normal in this day and age.’ So shut up and sit the hell down.”
Fair enough, Harada!
