Amazon will release the first trailer for its upcoming Lord of the Rings TV series, The Rings of Power, during the Super Bowl this weekend, according to Variety. The video will air sometime during the game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals, though Amazon did not say when specifically it would run.
The video will presumably be published across the internet as well, and we'll have it for you here on GameSpot as soon as possible.
The Rings of Power premieres September 2 on Amazon Prime. It's already been a busy year for the show, as Amazon confirmed the title in January and the released 23 character posters earlier this month. Check out some in the gallery below.
Some Super Bowl spots are going for as much as $7 million for 30 seconds, so Amazon is likely paying a good amount to promote The Rings of Power. But that shouldn't be surprising. Season 1 had a reported budget of $465 million, and that's before the $250 million that Amazon is said to have paid the Tolkien estate just for the rights.
Amazon Studios boss Jennifer Salke addressed the show's massive budget, saying «a lot» of people need to tune in make the investment worthwhile. Releasing the first trailer during one of the most-watched TV events in the US is seemingly a way to put the show on people's radars. «A giant, global audience needs to show up to it as appointment television, and we are pretty confident that that will happen,» she said.
Robert Aramayo and Joseph Mawle from Game of Thrones are among the cast members, though Amazon has yet to announce any details on the characters who will appear in the show and who plays them.
