More details have surfaced about the new non-Tolkien characters who are being introduced in the upcoming series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The series, which was developed by J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, is set in the Second Age of Middle-earth and based on stories by The Lord of the Rings scribe J.R.R. Tolkien. This makes it a prequel to the events of both The Hobbit and the LotR trilogy. The Rings of Power will be coming to Prime Video on September 2. Although most plot details have not been revealed yet, a teaser is set to premiere on Super Bowl Sunday.
Included among the series' massive cast are Morfydd Clark as young Galadriel and Robert Aramayo as young Elrond. Sauron will also be appearing in the series, though it is not currently known in what capacity. The eight-episode season 1 was directed by Wayne Che Yip, Charlotte Brändström, and J. A. Bayona, whose most recent work was another huge blockbuster franchise project: Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
