Amazon showed the first still images from the upcoming Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series, which premieres on Prime Video on September 2. As you might expect from a billion-dollar saga, Middle-earth and its inhabitants look pretty darn expensive as it's mostly a reputational project for the company.
Shared by Vanity Fair, several Rings of Power stills capture the appearance of the show's lead characters and their fascinating costumes, as well as various magnificent locations teeming with unmistakable Lord of the Rings aesthetics. Other images show a close behind-the-scenes look at the work on the project across the New Zealand scenery. Heavily based on John R.R. Tolkien's iconic works, Amazon's upcoming series isn't following a specific novel but delves deep into the vast backstory he created for the world of the Lord of the Rings.

The Rings of Power is an epic drama set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, meaning the audience will see only some familiar faces. Several of them, including young Galadriel performed by Morfydd Clark and Elrond played by Robert Aramayo, appeared in the featured shots. Unfortunately, Sauron himself, who is yet to rise as the well-known dark lord, hasn't shown just yet.
There will be plenty of new Middle-earth characters never seen on the screen, like Prince Durin the Fourth (Owain Arthur) or the dwarven Princess Disa (Sophia Nomvete). Several ones were created specifically for the Amazon series, like the silvan elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova).
