Warning: contains preview images for All-New Firefly #1!
Kaylee Frye will lead a new Serenity crew in a brand-new comic series from Boom! Studios, titled All-New Firefly. Formerly the ship’s engineer, Kaylee will take the captain’s seat for a new ongoing series, just in time for a mission that will stretch Serenity’s crew to their breaking point. The first issue of the new series goes on sale in print and digital February 23.
Despite only receiving 13 episodes in 2002, Firefly captured the hearts and minds of fans the world over. In 2005, series creator Joss Whedon revived the show for a feature film, titled Serenity. The film, while a hit with fans and critics, did not fare well at the box office; it concluded plot threads from the show while setting up new potential storylines. The Serenity’s adventures have continued in comic book form. Recently, Boom! Studios acquired the license to produce new comics based on the franchise, which have pointed the way for how it can survive and thrive without the involvement of Whedon. Boom’s Firefly/Serenity comics have not only explored the franchise’s future, but also its past, offering readers tantalizing glimpses of the “Earth That Was”—hundreds of years before it was abandoned. Now Kaylee Frye takes command of Serenity in All-New Firefly #1, written by David Booher, illustrated by Jordi Perez, colored by Francesco Segala and Gloria Martinelli and lettered by Jim Campbell.
