The creators of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power explain how Hobbits can exist in the upcoming series without creating plot holes in Tolkien's original work. After the more recent Hobbit trilogy failed to live up to the high bar set by the first set of films, the world of The Lord of the Rings is set to return once more, albeit to the small screen this time around.
Now officially titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Amazon Studios' upcoming series promises to be the streamer's biggest project yet, boasting a budget of $465 million for the first season alone. Taking place in the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of Jackson's original trilogy, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power promises to introduce new characters and explore new regions of Middle-earth. Plot details regarding the series remain scarce, but a trailer is set to premiere during the Super Bowl, finally giving audiences a taste of what awaits when the series lands on Amazon Prime in September.

While Tolkien has made clear that Hobbits didn't play a part in any important events during the Second Age, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne have found a way to include the fan-favorite race without creating any plot holes in Tolkien's work. Per Vanity Fair, McKay explains that the series wouldn't truly feel like a Lord of the Rings series without Hobbits, which is why they've chosen to incorporate storylines involving one Hobbit
