John Cameron Mitchell talks about his upcoming role in Neil Gaiman's The Sandman and why he took on the part. Mitchell, originally known for creating Hedwig and the Angry Inch, has recently come to prominence for his portrayal of Joe Exotic on Netflix's Joe vs. Carole based on Tiger King. Mitchell is also known for directing Shortbus and Rabbit Hole as well as his advocacy in the LGBTQ+ community.
The Sandman, based on Gaiman's comic of the same name, follows Dream (Tom Sturridge) after he escapes imprisonment from an occult ritual and his quest to restore order to the kingdom of Dreaming. Gaiman is set to co-write the first episode of The Sandman and potentially more as the series goes on.
