The first trailer for Netflix's Along for the Ridereveals the streamer's dreamy first Sarah Dessen adaptation. Known for her romantic beachside tales, Dessen has long been a staple of the YA genre. She's published a total of 14 novels over the years, yet so far only two have been turned into a movie. That Summer and Someone LikeYou were both adapted for the 2003 film How to Deal, which starred Mandy Moore and Trent Ford. In 2019, Netflix announced it had optioned 3 of Dessen's books for movie adaptations; Along for the Ride is the first project to emerge from this deal.
Directed by Sofia Alvarez, Along for the Ride centers on Auden (Emma Pasarow), an overachieving insomniac who has missed out on having a carefree life due to her parents' divorce. The summer before going off to college, Auden heads to the beachside town of Colby to spend some time with her dad (Dermot Mulroney) and perhaps indulge in some of those teenage antics she's ignored. It's there that she meets Eli (Belmont Cameli), a fellow insomniac who accompanies her on her nighttime explorations of Colby. A connection forms between the two, pushing themselves to confront what's been keeping them to the shadows.
