Following a recent sketch titled «Short-A** Movies» on Saturday Night Live, which made fun of movies with long runtimes, Netflix creates a new browsing category on its service. In the sketch, Davidson is joined by musical guest Gunna, cast member Chris Redd, and Simon «Dirt Nasty» Rex to rap about choosing shorter films over longer ones. They citeLiar, Liar, Evil Dead, Punch Drunk Love, and a slew of Ernest films as preferable choices over any movie with a runtime pushing two hours.
As a result of the recent sketch, Netflix took to Twitter through its comedy social arm, Netflix is a Joke, and simply responded to the video with, "good idea." The streaming service followed through and created a real section with that name. The Netflix category consists of shorter feature films split into over a dozen sub-genres. Midnight in Paris, Peter Rabbit 2, and Anaconda are listed among many others movies.

The recentSNL music video acts as a humorous response to a perceived trend in Hollywood. Although still relatively rare, some of the more mainstream films have embraced longer runtimes lately. For example, Spider-Man: No Way Home sits at nearly two and a half hours. Singled-out in the Saturday Night Live video, the recent DC superhero hit film, The Batman, clocks in at just four minutes shy of three hours. Based on Netflix's response to the sketch, it seems the streamer agrees with Davidson that sometimes a shorter movie is preferable, at least for some subscribers.
