Hollywood director Sam Raimi has revealed that he has only seen four MCU films, and that is a major hint at how good Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is. In January 2020, Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson exited the sequel over creative differences. Months later, Sam Raimi was announced as his replacement for a film that would not only continue the Doctor Strange story, but also bring Scarlet Witch to the forefront and delve into the MCU's Multiverse.
Doctor Strange 2 is not the first time Sam Raimi and Kevin Feige have worked together. Feige was once an uncredited associate producer during the production of Spider-Man and later an executive producer on Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, all of which Sam Raimi directed. Two decades later, Kevin Feige is the figurehead behind the most successful franchise in Hollywood history, and once again had the opportunity to work with a creator who likely inspired him early in his career.

During promotion for Doctor Strange 2, Sam Raimi revealed that the only MCU films he has seen are Iron Man, The Avengers, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange. While the director was extremely positive about what he has scene, Raimi explained in another interview with AMC Theaters that he had a «little overdose» on the superhero genre after making three of his own.
