Hiromu Arakawa redraws a poster for the live-action Fullmetal Alchemist sequel for a special illustration. Arakawa's hit manga Fullmetal Alchemist became a critical point of attraction to the medium for Western audiences. The series has been adapted into two critically acclaimed anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist which was released before the manga was completed and the 2011 Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood which remains faithful to the manga's storyline. On top of each anime series achieving high popularity in Japan and internationally, Fullmetal Alchemist received a live-action movie adaptation in 2017.
The live-action movie tells the first part of brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric's story in Fullmetal Alchemist as they search for the philosopher's stone. Despite the live-action adaptation's mixed reception, it was announced that the rest of the Elric brothers' story would be told in a two-part finale. As they continue their search, Ed and Al will encounter the alchemist killer Scar and must face off against new homunculi threats during their quest. The films, titled Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter – The Avenger Scar and Fullmetal Alchemist: Final Chapter – The Last Transmutation, will be released in Japan on May 20 and June 24, respectively.
