Netflix officially releases the first trailer for the action-thriller Silverton Siege. Based on a true story, the South African film focuses on three young freedom fighters and their tense standoff with police that helped spark the Free Mandela movement. With the country under an oppressive apartheid regime, the siege proved to be a significant moment in the country's violent history as it struggled with overturning a brutal system.
The first trailer for Netflix's South African film Silverton Siege has finally been unveiled and it offers a first look at the tension-filled thriller. Set in 1980, the film centers on three members of the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK), the militant arm of the African National Congress. During an attempt to sabotage gas depots, the local police found out about their plan and engaged the trio. The fighters were chased into a bank in Silverton, Pretoria where they barricaded themselves inside and took hostages. With no way out, the MK fighters seized the moment and demanded the release of future South African president Nelson Mandela. Check out the trailer below.

Silverton Siege is directed by South African filmmaker Mandla Dube, who has previously called the film his best work of his career. Dube has also directed Kalushi: The Story of Solomon Mahlangu, the 2016 biopoic about the ANC freedom fighter and episodes of the Netflix drama series Jiva! Noxolo Dlamini, Thabo Rametsi, and Stefan Erasmus star as the famed MK trio with The Mummy's Arnold Vosloo rounding out the cast as a police negotiator.
