Update: It looks like the scale of the leaks were simply too large for LEGO to ignore, and it’s effectively confirmed that 2K Sports’ arcade kart racer LEGO 2K Drive will be officially revealed later this week. You can look forward to a trailer debuting on 23rd March. In the meantime, this skit poking fun at all the leaks is pretty amusing.
Original Article: We don’t get access to the Mario Kart games on PlayStation, but in our humble opinion Sumo Digital’s excellent Sonic & All-Star Racing Transformed is the closest a rival has come to Nintendo’s seminal series. LEGO 2K Drive, a release which appears to have leaked over the weekend, looks to be building on the same kind of energy.
Despite being billed as open world, screenshots – which we won’t republish here for obvious reasons – show multifaceted races, where you’ll be commandeering cars, boats, and planes – all built out of LEGO, of course. There are a number of different themes glimpsed in the images, including a swamp, a freeway, and a haunted house. It all looks rather pleasant, to be honest.
The game is poised to be one of several LEGO-themed sports games from 2K Sports, with a soccer release also purportedly in production. It’s all part of a major shakeup from the Danish brick manufacturer, which will see it expand its portfolio beyond its obligatory licensed tie-ins like LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Harry Potter. (Although another of the latter is allegedly on the way, too.)
To be honest, the selection of arcade racers available on PS5 and PS4 these days is pretty pitiful, so we’re certainly open to the potential of this LEGO-inspired racer. With Disney Speedstorm also imminent, perhaps the future is looking a little brighter on this front – all we need now is for
