Across the 1000 years of history commonly known as the Middle Ages, when human populations drastically declined, not even the greatest medieval battles of the era (coincidentally, contemporary and geographically close by) involved (on both sides) anywhere close to as many people as are currently playing Kingdom Come: Deliverance II on PC alone.
As foretold, the peerless RPG from developer Warhorse Studios has finally arrived. At least on Steam, where such things are visible, a vast host of almost 160,000 players answered the call to arms, and that on a Tuesday in February. It's a stunning success from a formerly niche developer. As with Larian Studios and Baldur's Gate 3, this feat has already irrevocably changed the course of Warhorse's destiny forever and (in this humble, barely-literate scribe's opinion) elevated it to the industry's highest echelon.
The heritage of the Kingdom Come series is very much on PC, and so we'd be surprised if that many were playing on other platforms. Still, considering the nearly immaculate nature of the pre-release build we played for review on PS5 Pro and the massive day one patch that's been promised, we're reasonably confident that fans of quality RPGs on PlayStation will put up similarly heroic numbers.
