We’ve played more games set in the Wild West than we can count, but we’ve never played one quite like King of the West.
Published by Games Hub Hong Kong, King of the West sees you stepping into the well-worn boots of an American frontiersman as you attempt to establish a settlement in hostile territory. This ambitious, genre-straddling strategy game combines city building, upgrading, resource gathering, and construction with a Western theme.
The action takes place during the golden age of the American west, covering the 30 years or so between the end of the civil war and the turn of the 20th century.
Location-wise, it covers the western and southern regions of the North American continent, as well as the northern part of Mexico. That means prairies, deserts, and all the iconic landscapes you’ve visited in countless other Wild West games.
It looks spectacular, too, with next gen 3D visuals, detailed character models, stunning vistas, and a fun Wild West-themed art style.
The plot is classic western. You’re a bounty hunter who decides to abandon his mercenary ways and help some townsfolk to eject their greedy capitalist tormentors and defeat a band of desperados.
This naturally means taking control of the town, upgrading buildings, harvesting resources, forming alliances, and so on. You’ll need to manage reserves of Wood, Stone, Food, Steel, Gold, and more.
Oh, and you’ll also have to win battles. Lots and lots of battles. Combat is what allows you to expand your territory, giving you access to more resources, and this means you’ll also have to train troops, upgrade their equipment, and recruit new Heroes to your cause.
