After confirming earlier this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con that Invincible's Omni-Man would be headed to Mortal Kombat 1 alongside Homelander and Peacemaker, we've also just learned that J.K. Simmons will be voicing the role, having already popularized it in the Amazon Prime animated series.
This comes from an interview on the Comic-Con show floor during which Netherrealm's Ed Boon revealed that Simmons had been recording the voiceover for Omni-Man. "It's as authentic as it can be," Boon said.
Simmons has been beloved across film, TV, and even video games for some time. He's perhaps best known for playing J. Jonah Jameson across multiple Spider-Man instances including Sam Raimi's trilogy, Far From Home and No Way Home, Across the Spider-Verse, multiple animated shows, and the 2005 and 2007 Spider-Man video games, 2 and 3.
But recently, he's been voicing Omni-Man in Amazon Prime animated series Invincible, which just got a season 2 release date of November 3. We won't spoil the ending of season one, of course, but our review called it "the year's most surprising superhero series," and Omni-Man in particular has a pretty significant role to play in it as the protagonist's father.
As for his role in Mortal Kombat 1, we'll have to be a bit more patient. Omni-Man arrives as part of the game's first DLC Kombat Pack alongside Quan Chi, Takeda, Ermac, and Homelander. We spoke to Boon in-depth about all the news about Mortal Kombat 1 from the show including newly-announced character reveals and more.
