A crew member working on the Five Nights at Freddy's movie has confirmed that the infamous red eyes are somehow part of the plot and will be explained by the movie.
After years of being in development hell, we're just a few short months away from the release of the Five Nights at Freddy's movie. So far, nearly everything that's been shown of it has been received rather positively by the fanbase, including the animatronics, the design of the pizzeria itself, and the casting choices. There's one element that's been near-universally hated, however - the glowing red eyes.

Although most of Five Nights at Freddy's seems to be sticking to what was shown in the games, one of the original elements presented here is that the animatronics occasionally have glowing red eyes at night, a change that's not yet been explained in the footage that we've seen so far. It's not something that fans are very happy about, however, with many calling it "goofy" and even making edits that remove the red glow.
The controversy might have died down a fair bit since the red eyes first made their debut (at one point being the most-talked-about topic on the game's subreddit), but it's not completely gone, with some fans still showing annoyance about it as the movie draws closer. Thankfully, even though it looks like something that's not going to be changed for the film's release, it looks like there's at least going to be a reason behind the eyes that's explained in the movie.
