While we don’t think PS5 or PS4 present the perfect place to play visual novels, the improvements to Remote Play and release of the PS Portal have tipped the scales somewhat.
Death Match Love Comedy! may be one worth keeping an eye on in 2025, then. The title first launched on PS4 all the way back in 2020 in Japan, but is now getting a Western localisation courtesy of publisher PQube.
This game started life as a mobile release, but was remade for consoles. Here’s the blurb: “First year Kei Yagi is about to receive a love confession from not one, but two classmates, when he suddenly explodes. Although this initial incident was an illusion, he discovers that due to a mysterious curse put upon him, the next time he receives a confession of love he will truly explode and die.”
The story’s described as a “slapstick comedy”, which is perhaps a little different for the world of visual novels, which tend to fall into the otome or bishōjo categories. It’s from the same developer, Kemko, as Raging Loop, though, so if you got a kick out of that earlier in the year, you’ll probably like this as well.

I will be all over this when it comes out. Hoping for a physical release!
