The finale of is slated to air on Sunday, August 4, but parts of it have been leaked on TikTok and X (formerly known as Twitter) five days in advance. A prequel to the hit show Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon is currently one of the most talked-about TV series in the world, as its predecessor was. Accordingly, the House of the Dragon finale leak has drawn widespread attention.
On Tuesday night, a TikTok account posted clips from the upcoming finale of House of the Dragon Season 2. By the time the account was taken down, roughly three hours after leaking the footage, these videos had been viewed between 50k to 100k times each and had been shared by other accounts on TikTok as well as on X.
This is not the first time that this has happened with House of the Dragon, or its predecessor, for that matter. Back in October 2022, there was a leak of the finale of House of the Dragon Season 1 before the official airing of the episode. At the time, HBO released the following statement to Variety, noting that a distribution partner in the Europe, the Middle East, and Africa region was behind the leak.
“We are aware that the tenth episode of House of the Dragon has been posted on illegal torrent sites,” the statement said. “It appears to have originated from a distribution partner in the EMEA region. HBO is aggressively monitoring and pulling these copies from the internet. We’re disappointed that this unlawful action has disrupted the viewing experience for loyal fans of the show, who will get to see a pristine version of the episode when it premieres Sunday on HBO and HBO Max, where it will stream exclusively in 4K.”
Several episodes of Game of Thrones also ended up on social media and unauthorized sites before they became officially available. As with previous leaks, HBO now faces a tough task in attempting to contain the leaked footage of House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 8.
