A new character for 2.2 has just been announced, and their official reveal comes as unexpected news, especially considering how their very arrival may be impossible in terms of lore. With every new patch, the turn-based RPG gets new playable characters added to the roster, many of which initially make their debut as an NPC only to be made fully available later on. This is the case with Acheron and Aventurine in 2.1, for instance, after their story debuts in Version 2.0.
Now, developer HoYoverse has announced a new character for Version 2.2, which seems to unexpectedly bring her back from the dead. As was posted on the official account on X, Robin is a new 5-star character being added to the upcoming patch. The renowned singer, however, was shown dead in the main Penacony quests of Version 2.0.
The post made by HoYoverse also revealed that Robin is a Physical character who follows the Path of the Harmony. This makes her similar to Hanya, though details about Robin’s gameplay kit are still unknown.
The circumstances of Robin’s release related to the lore are mysterious. It is uncertain if she will make a comeback as an NPC in the main story following her death at the end of Version 2.0’s quests. Alternatively, as she was shown dead in Penacony, there is a chance she was only dead in the Dreamscape and somehow managed to survive in the waking world. Nevertheless, Robin’s release in 2.2 creates hope for future character releases.
Until now, HoYoverse had only killed off one playable character. Tingyun started as playable and then was presumably killed in the campaign – this allowed her death to serve as a narrative tool to push the story forward while also permitting players to continue using her in the gameplay. Robin’s release may confirm that HoYoverse will kill off certain characters and still release them posthumously.
This could mean, as pointed out by other users in the reply to ’s post, that Firefly could also be released.
Like Robin, Firefly was killed off
