According to recent benchmark tests on Hogwarts Legacy, the Harry Potter game is running better on PlayStation 5 than on Xbox Series X/S. Hogwarts Legacy is available on both next-gen platforms to offer Harry Potter fans an immersive experience in the Wizarding World, but it seems some players will have a better experience than others.
Hogwarts Legacy has been the main topic in the gaming industry for a few weeks now, from the controversy regarding J. K. Rowling’s statements and demands for a boycott to Hogwarts Legacy becoming WB Games’ biggest Steam launch ever and breaking various sales records over the world. The action-RPG set in Harry Potter’s universe follows the adventures of a student from the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as they attend various classes, figure out the plans of an evil antagonist, make friends, and discover the secrets of the most famous school in the Wizarding World.

While Hogwarts Legacy is available on both next-gen consoles, recent tests conducted by Digital Foundry revealed that the game runs better on PlayStation 5 than it does on Xbox Series X. In their Hogwarts Legacy tech review video, they found out that the game was “very shaky” in the performance mode on the Xbox Series X, while the 60 FPS was “nearly locked” on the PlayStation 5 version. The biggest drop in FPS seems to appear when the main character goes from indoor to outdoor, which happens quite often as players travel in and out of Hogwarts and the nearby villages to complete their quests.
