Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is out now, finally letting us experience the next chapter in the remake series. With Final Fantasy 7 Remake already making changes to the story of the original game, many will be wondering how Rebirth shakes it up even further - particularly with how it handles that death.
Back in the day, Aerith was killed off relatively early on in Final Fantasy 7, at the end of the first disc. Since Remake made changes to the original story, many fans had wondered if this would continue with Rebirth, perhaps swapping Aerith out with another character. Tifa was a popular guess, something that Square Enix seemed to play into in the trailers.
But now, we know exactly how Rebirth and the next game in the series will handle that pivotal Aerith scene. From this, we can get a better idea of how faithful the final game in the trilogy will be to the originals too, since this moment will tie into the next sequel, whenever we get it.

Sorry, Aeirth fans - she still kicks the bucket in Rebirth. Her death isn't as straightforward as it was in the original Final Fantasy 7 at least, what with all the alternate universe shenanigans this time around, but alas, Sephiroth still kills Aerith in the game. That does mean that Tifa, Barret, and anyone else we thought would take her place are safe. For now. Who knows what Square Enix has planned for them further down the line?
One thing that was noted by one of my colleagues who has blasted through Rebirth already is that this might not be the end for Aerith. Without getting into specific details, it seems like Cloud will still be able to communicate with her, perhaps giving her a role in the next game, whatever it ends up being called. But considering it was a four-year wait between Rebirth and Remake (admittedly broken up by Intergrade and Reunion), we shouldn't expect
