It could well be argued that without the original Doom, there wouldn’t be much of an FPS golden age, and that includes games like Half-Life. So, imagine my surprise when it turns out that someone has managed to take the aforementioned titles and package them under one roof. Kind of.
If you’ve always wanted to know what Doom 2 would be like with Half-Life‘s sound effects, then ModDB user DASniperIC (thanks, PCGamesN) has just the thing for you.
If you want an idea of what it sounds like when the enemies of one game cry out like injured scientists in the other, the footage gives you a taste. Not only does the mod replace the enemy howls and roars with things like Black Mesa scientists, but all the weapons now sound like they come from Valve’s IP, too.
As DASniperIC says, it’s entirely possible someone else has tackled the concept already. However, this version is simply their take on a Doom/Half-Life crossover.
It’s one of a gazillion ways that these legendary shooters continue to get the modding treatment and thus remain in the gaming limelight. Classic Doom is certainly no stranger to mods, having spent the better part of three decades receiving tweaks and custom options from its community.
As for Half-Life, well, that’s still getting a lot of love these days, even more so the sequel. In any case, modding legendary FPS games shows no signs of slowing down. Maybe someone will combine Doom with another game from a bygone era, like Blood. Oh, wait. That’s totally a thing.
