Blockbuster battle royale Apex Legends is finally getting cross-progression, merging together the stats, cosmetics, bought Apex Coins and more for players that have been going across multiple platforms. All of this is coming with Apex Legends Season 19: Ignite.
Given how many years the game has been running, and that it is spread across PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch, there’s also a lot of finer details and caveats to the plan. To help ensure things go smoothly, Respawn will be rolling the account merge out gradually over the coming weeks. They’re also making this change for all accounts and players – you cannot opt out of this mandatory switch, and it will be automatically applied to your accounts.
In a disappointing decision, stats will not be merged through this process. Instead, Respawn will determine which is your primary platform – the one on which you reached the highest level – and use this as the basis for your account going forward. Only the stats and progress from this platform will be retained, and this will be used as the basis for the cumulative stats and progress going forward. That’s a real shame when you might have some particularly hard fought and prized badges or a handful of stat-dependent skins on a lesser played platform, as these will be lost.
Going forward, progression for challenges, prize tracks and XP will be bound to the EA account and the same across all platforms. The exceptions are that ranked leaderboards will stay locked to each platform. Currencies will also be merged, so crafting materials, legend tokens, heirloom shards and premium currency Apex Coins will be combined – the one exception is that Nintendo Switch purchases and earned coins will remain exclusive to Nintendo.
