Helldivers 2 has sold nearly 3 million copies to date, a senior Arrowhead Game Studios official has revealed. This commercial performance update arrives mere weeks following Helldivers 2's immensely successful release.
The Sony-published live-service shooter has immediately established itself as a huge hit; Helldivers 2 took 24 hours to strip Palworld of the title of Steam's best-selling game, and 72 hours to hit 1 million in combined PC and PS5 sales. The latter achievement was previously confirmed by Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt.
Pilestedt has now once again taken to social media to share the game's updated sales figures. He did so indirectly, by validating one fan's speculation that Helldivers 2 sold «almost 3 million» copies with a telling selection of emoji. The casual exchange happened on February 25, 17 days since the game's release, indicating that Helldivers2 has so far averaged roughly 1 million sales per week. While no breakdown of the game's commercial performance by platform has been shared to date, its ongoing success has so far appeared to be somewhat evenly distributed. Specifically, Helldivers 2 managed to outperform Call of Duty and Fortnite on the PS5 while simultaneously dominating Steam's Top Sellers chart.
The other side of this ongoing success story is that Arrowhead found itself scrambling to keep the game's servers online up until just recently. The overwhelming demand resulted in never-ending queues and connection issues, with some players struggling to even launch the shooter, never mind get into a match. This led to plenty of frustrations and consequently tanked Helldivers 2 Steam user reviews, which dropped from «Very Positive» to «Mixed» in mid-February.
