Our Preservation Evoker guide writer, Voulk, offers an early review of the Flameshaper Evoker Hero Talents that's unique and distinct from Chronowarden but the gameplay may hinge on whether the signature ability Engulf can be echoed.
I had some fears when «Ruby Adept» / Flameshaper was first announced that it would be more of a Devastation tree with Preservation tacked on — like a few other healer / dps trees have been. I was mistaken. This is a great Preservation tree with a good mix of raw power nodes and a new ability that opens up even more combo potential. Flameshaper feels like a unique evolution of base Evoker gameplay and I'm very excited to test it out.
Almost all Evoker healing spells can Echo. That is, if you have an Echo buff out they will consume it and heal the target (and sometimes more). Engulf is a little like Living Flame in that it can be used both on an enemy and ally target which likely means that we can Echo this too. The gameplay implications are massive and you will play this tree entirely differently based on the answer to this question. We'll cover these in the Node walkthrough but for now, just keep in mind that we aren't sure. It probably can be Echo'd but it also might be best if it can't.
