A new comedy series,Shrinking, from the Ted Lasso creators will star Harrison Ford, who joins the previously cast Jason Segel. The series follows a therapist (played by Segel) who begins to have no filter while speaking to his clients and dealing with his own grief. Shrinking is written by Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein who stars, writes, and co-executive produces for Ted Lasso. Segel is also attached as a writer and executive producer for Shrinking, his first television writing project since his series Dispatches from Elsewhere in 2020.
Now, Apple TV+ shares Shrinking will star Ford as Segel's character Jimmy's mentor, Dr. Phil Rhodes, a respected Cognitive Behavioral therapist with a grounded sensibility to himself. Dr. Rhodes will have to deal not only with the repercussions from Jimmy's therapy but also with a recent diagnosis of Parkinson’s.

Although Shrinking is described as a comedy, it's likely the signature style from Ted Lasso of bringing much heart and emotion alongside it will continue with this new show. Segel is adept at blending the comedy and drama genres not only in his acting in films such as The End of the Tour but also in his creative direction on his series Dispatches from Elsewhere. Viewers can look forward to seeing how Segel, Lawrence, and Goldstein make sure the characters' emotional arcs are as strong as the comedy elements of the series. Hopefully, they'll also be able to enjoy Ford in a role that offers him a larger emotional range than the gruff action hero.
