There are several series centering on religious cults leading to murderous ends in recent years, including True Detective, Waco, and The Sinner season 2, to name a few. Under the Banner of Heaven is written by Krakauer along with Dustin Lance Black (Milk), and David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) is attached as the season 1 episode 1 director. Whether these veteran writers and directors, along with the anticipated performances by Garfield and Edgar-Jones, will be enough to produce a series that breathes new life into the genre will be seen on April 28 when the series premieres on Fx and Hulu.
