Google is using machine learning and artificial intelligence to help applicants practice for job interviews.
The tool, aptly named Interview Warmup(Opens in a new window), invites folks to sharpen their skills and gain confidence—whether you've lined up half a dozen interviews, or just want some low-pressure rehearsals.
Originally designed to help Google Career Certificate learners prepare for the job market, the feature is now open to anyone with an internet connection. To get started, select your chosen career, then complete a practice interview of five randomly selected questions. Or simply browse all available queries handpicked by an expert in that field.
Three types of questions cover your past training and experiences (background), how you have dealt or might deal with incidents (situational), and knowledge and skills specific to your intended job (technical).
Read and listen to each question, click "Answer" and begin speaking, then tap "Done" when finished. Responses are transcribed in real time, making it easy to review and discover patterns (good and bad) in your speech. You can then review how many job-related terms you used, how often you repeated words, and whether you covered the necessary talking points.
"These are only suggestions and observations," Google's FAQ page said. "Insights help you discover patterns in your answers. They don't 'grade' your answer or tell you what part of your answer is right or wrong."
Audio is never saved or shared with anyone; to save your answers, copy and past the text into a separate document, or download the full transcript at the end of the interview. Users can also tap the keyboard button to type replies, and may redo or edit an answer as many times as required.
