Why do Ben Hargreeves' powers seem different in The Umbrella Academy season 3? Played by Justin H. Min, Ben Hargreeves spent The Umbrella Academy's first two seasons awkwardly attached to Klaus, his clairvoyant brother. Unable to move into the afterlife proper, Ben's ghost only became visible when Klaus was focused (and sober!) enough to channel him. Faced with yet another apocalypse in 1960s Dallas, Ben sacrificed himself to prevent Viktor's torture-induced implosion, dragging his brother back from the brink and saving the world, but losing his connection to the mortal plane.
Fortunately, death is a relative concept in The Umbrella Academy. Because the Hargreeves siblings tampered with history, 2019 now looks completely different. In this timeline, Sir Reginald avoided adopting the kids he met in 1963 and created a whole new team called the Sparrow Academy instead. The only familiar face is Justin H. Min's Ben — likely because Reginald never physically encountered The Horror in Dallas. This Ben bears a facial scar the original didn't, has a totally new hairstyle, and as The Umbrella Academy season 3's trailer duly notes, is a dickhead.
